MS Verification Form - Students and parents must sign this form (stating that you have read and agreed to all information presented in the handbook) and return it to Mr. Belote no later than Wednesday, September 7.
Rehearsal Skills Form - This form shows the point system that students use to reflect upon their behavior and effort at the end of each week.
Concert Behavioral Self-Assessment Form - Students complete this assessment on the day after every performance. This determines the Concert Performance portion of their grade.
Practice_Journal - Students are expected to turn in a practice journal at the end of each week. These journal assignments determine the Individual Practice portion of their grade.
How to use the practice journal:
Students should complete each square in a routine practice session. There is no required amount of time attached to each activity square, but you can use personal indicators (such as warm mouth-pieces or tired “chops”) to signal when to move on to the next activity. Students record what they do (not how long they do it, but what they actually practice) for each square. Be as specific as the space allows. I encooruage students to look at their journal each time they sit down to practice. Are they doing the exact same things they practiced the day before? Is this helping them progress in all areas of their musicianship, or will mixing things up make the practice session more interesting and productive?
I ask the students to complete four days each week and turn it in with a parent signature at the end of each week. The back side has suggested activites for each square.
Grading is done with a points system to reflect a Standards-Based Approach:
Exceeds the Standard: 10 points for 4-5 days of practice and 11 points for 6-7 days.
Meets Standard with Excellence: 9 points for 3 days of practice
Meets Proficiency: 8 points for 2 days of practice
Approaching Proficiency: 7 points for 1 day of practice
Well Below Proficiency: 0 days of practice. 6 points for blank journal turned in. 5 points for no journal turned in.
